Illini Chill®

On Saturday, February 19, 2011, the Illini Chill® Ride took place. 30 riders gathered in the chilly air to make a bike ride to Homer Lake Preserve and back to St. Joseph. The riders started off the morning with a lumberjack breakfast, had hot chocolate at a halfway point and enjoyed a delicious spaghetti dinner upon their return to St. Joseph. Door prize drawings were held for prizes donated by local businesses.

In celebration of the 10th year of the event, we made a change to the route in order to incorporate beautiful Homer Lake and the countryside south of St. Joseph. The usual midway Hot Chocolate stop was at the Homer Lake Interpretive Center, formerly known as the Environmental Education Center, allowing an opportunity to learn more about Homer Lake and the nature that surrounds it. As usual the day started with the wonderful Lumberjack breakfast, hosted by BSA Scout Troop 79, and then ended with the Spaghetti lunch, provided by the youth group at the Living Word Church in St. Joseph.
